Marshes and wetlands, which are unfortunately too many times undervalued, are extremely important for the health of our ecosystems as they help filter the water from impurities and provide food and shelter for a myriad of wildlife. At this local marsh, I had spent the whole morning studying, observing and photographing many species of birds that inhabit the area. This bird is a female red winged blackbird returning from the "hunt" with her beak full of insects. On this shot, the bird paused for a moment, balancing on a cat tail before returning to her well hidden nest to feed her young.
