This original watercolor painting of a robin fledgling was donated to the Wild at Heart Refuge Centre in Northern Ontario to help raise funds. The Centre provides veterinary treatment and rehabilitation to wild animals that are orphaned, sick or injured, so that they may be reintroduced into the wild. The Centre's vounteers treat up to 500 animals per year, including songbirds, birds of prey, shorebirds, waterfowl, small mammals, and orphaned large mammals. Wild at Heart is a non-profit organization as well as a registered charity.

The common robin, or red-breast as it is sometimes called, is one of the first birds of spring. When the food supply is good, parents can sometimes raise up to three broods in one season. Young hatchlings are very vulnerable when first out of the nest. This particular baby didn't even flinch as I was taking it's photograph only a few feet away.
