		Name: Sophie Nicknamed "Scruffy", Sophie was described by her owner as a vibrant, energetic, playful, loving dog who always appeared to be looking deeply into our eyes.

Every drawing starts out as a basic outline sketch.		Now that Sophie's eyes and nose are complete, I will start on the detail of the fur.

As I draw the fur, I actually add the dark lines that make up the shadows of the white fur. This is called negative drawing.		To improve the composition, I darkened the area on the side of the head. This increases the contrast between the body and face.

Adding the impression of white hair is a painstaking process. The dark lines are not the hairs themselves but actually the shadows that the hair casts on the fur.		In this stem, I added the messy fur on the forehead by darkening the area and making eraser marks to form the white locks of  fur. I then proceeded to the right ear.

Here I rounded off the right side of the face and continued to add the black background.		The finishing touches to Sophie's portrait have been added in this last update.
